Shanghai is bracing for Typhoon Bebinca, which could be the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the city since 1949. The Category 1 typhoon, with wind speeds of 144 km/h (89 mph), is expected to make landfall on China’s eastern coast after midnight on Monday. In preparation, Shanghai has halted transportation links, recalled ships, and closed major tourist spots, including Shanghai Disney Resort.

Over 600 flights have been canceled, and ferries to Chongming Island have been suspended. Zhejiang province has also recalled ships, and several parks in Hangzhou are closed. This comes as the typhoon coincides with China’s Mid-Autumn festival, a major holiday. Authorities have issued a Level-IV emergency response for potential flooding in Shanghai and surrounding provinces.
