Singapore’s Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCS) has approved Advanced Micro Devices Inc.’s (AMD) $4.9 billion acquisition of server maker ZT Systems. The deal, announced in August 2024, is a strategic move by AMD to enhance its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) and data center markets, aiming to better compete with industry leader Nvidia.
ZT Systems, known for designing custom server and storage solutions for hyperscale data centers, will strengthen AMD’s ability to offer comprehensive AI infrastructure solutions globally. The CCCS conducted a public consultation and concluded the acquisition would not reduce market competition, citing minimal risk of leveraging market power through tying or bundling strategies.
This approval is a key milestone, with the acquisition expected to close in the first half of 2025, subject to additional regulatory approvals.
