A rising U.S. dollar is expected to reduce online travel companies’ revenue growth in 2025, with currency headwinds shaving 2-3% off gross bookings and reported revenue. However, investors seem to have priced in the impact and are now focusing on companies’ product innovations.
UBS notes that major players like Airbnb, Booking Holdings (NASDAQ:BKNG), and Expedia (NASDAQ:EXPE) face near-term pressure, with Booking seeing the biggest FX impact due to its European exposure. Despite this, travel demand remains strong, and companies are enhancing services to drive growth.
Booking’s “Connected Trip” initiative and Airbnb’s expansion in emerging markets aim to boost engagement, while Expedia’s Vrbo platform showed strong 14.5% YoY growth in Q4. Investors are now prioritizing execution strategies, such as cost-saving measures and service monetization, to counter currency effects.
With upcoming Q4 earnings reports, the market will gain better insight into how these companies are managing FX challenges and positioning for future growth.
